![]() ![]() “But I digest” -Ali G … We start out with two rockstaresque genetic scientists in Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley who don the cover of magazines, and basically write their own ticket after they had successfully created a life combined of like 8 other species in order to synthesize proteins and medicines which would help the world out in crazy ways. Splice starts out with a crazy mad-scientist vibe the likes of which I haven’t seen since ‘The Fly’ back in the 80s, now this could be from the same filming locations or the genetic experimenting involved, either way, they both felt like they were cut from the same cloth. So basically, if the movie had been billed as a sci-fi movie with some crazy shit going down, it would have produced much better reviews and sales. And now on to the review… Now I am most definitely a horror fan, but I am a fan of film over anything else, so when a movie gets complex in nature and makes me think, I am usually happy with the results… though it is hard to truley appreciate the film with retards all around you moaning about how there isn’t enough blood and guts, or whining waiting for something hardcore to happen to the point that when it DOES happen it’s not good enough for them and thousands of hate filled reviews are released upon the masses causing a severe drop in ticket sales. ![]() This delicate balance is tricky, especially in the marketing, which they did to make it look like it was a horror movie with a sci-fi twist, well it turned out being basically the opposite which resulted in the ultimate backfire… Hardcore horror fans lining up to see a horror flick opening weekend, the bitching and moaning about how boring it was. When making a movie like Splice, you are walking a very fine line, which separates two extremely loyal and opinionated fan bases… Horror and Sci-Fi. Now before I start, I have to point out how this was another movie killed before it had a chance by bad marketing and representation. Produced by Guillermo Del Toro, and starring Adrien Brody, this film brings allot to you in a nice little new aged pop-styled package. So I just recently saw Splice again after my first ‘encounter’ since I saw it opening weekend, and I have to say that it was still as good as I remembered. ![]()
